The Birds Love Chikmagalur Golf Club

When you enter Chikmagalur you feel as if Mother Nature has taken you into her arms to soothe you. Gone is the hustle and bustle of city life. The cacophony of city traffic is left far behind. All you hear is the chirping of the birds and the buzzing of the bees.

The Chikmagalur Golf Club is an ornithologist’s delight. Surrounded as it is by the Western Ghat ranges, the Club has found favour with a host of rare birds – Babblers, Wobblers, Flycatchers, Flowerpeckers, Doves, Chats and Robins are only some of the over 200 species that seek sanctuary here. Even the rare and attractive Pheasant tailed Jacana, a polyandrous bird breeds here. Early in the year of the Flame-of-the-forest (Butea Monosperma), is in bloom lending a unique charm to the environs.

After a hard day’s toil at the end of play, a rich golfer gives his caddy just three coins, and the caddy says “These three coins tell a lot about you Sir”. “What do they say”? asks the rick golfer. The caddy replies “The first coin says you are a very gentleman”. The rich golfer is mightly pleased. “What do the other two coins say”? asks he. The caddy replies “The second coin says you are a bachelor”. The rich golfer is surprised. “How did you know that”? The caddy says “Sir, the coin says that”. The curiosity of the rich golfer is aroused. He wants to know what the third coin says. The caddy says “The third coin tells me that your father was a bachelor as well”.
